“Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity.” (I Timothy 4:12, NKJV) It’s often said that young people are the leaders of tomorrow, however, the reality is they are already leaders in their own right. A simple google search will uncover children as young as 10 completing their college degree. In recent years, children under 18 graduating from college has increased. Google will also give you a list of entrepreneurs, CEO’s, innovators and business owners who are under the age of 18. It certainly seems like knowledge has increased and the youth have been recipients. Certainly, these young people have not allowed their age to be a limiting factor in leadership. I’m sure there are a few adults in the picture, mentoring, encouraging and advising when requested.
While stories of successful young leaders are more common in the world, the youth inside our churches also have the potential to be exceptional young leaders. After all isn’t God also able to use those in His church and bless them in abundance? Be it a historic boy king of only 8 years old, or any other child in our church today, God can and will use the youth. They are to be an example to the believers in the world in how they carry themselves as well as their faith and demonstration of God’s love. The youth of today, more than ever are in a position to carry the Advent message to all the world in this generation. The older generations in the church have a responsibility to help cultivate our young leaders. We are to encourage, support, mentor and empower them!
As this issue focus on leadership from various angles, we hope you will spend some time considering and praying for a generation of youth who will lead
a mighty revival in our church. As we start this new year I encourage you to embrace Total Member Involvement TMI. Yes, the youth are members too, so let’s also embrace Total Youth Involvement. When the youth partner with the older generations a powerful army of disciples will be the sure result. Let’s “Pass It On” and finish the work.
